Wolfgang Puck's restaurant, The Source, was my favorite restaurant on this trip! (Close second was Junior's Cheesecake.) Before I say too much, I should go ahead and post the article!! So here it is - for your enjoyment. :) I hope that when you get a chance to go to D.C., you stop by The Source for an incredible dining experience!
Happy eating,
~HB~ --> I am not your average tourist. My idea of traveling is to pick the destination, then get my fill of the city’s flavors at great restaurants. Sightseeing is fun, but it is not my favorite part of the trip.
I
recently went to Washington D.C. to receive my Gold Congressional Medal. While there,
my parents and I got to taste the flavors of America’s capitol.
The Source by Wolfgang
Puck was first on the list. It is about a forty-minute walk from the Library of
Congress – something that we learned the hard way! From the moment that we got
there everyone was nice! The hostess hung our jackets up, and took us upstairs
to our table. It is a glass building, and the staircase was glass as well.
Maybe it is just me, but I thought that it was awesome getting to walk up a
glass staircase! A waiter immediately asked us what we wanted to drink and
brought it right to us. I am not sure if they felt bad for giving us the wrong
walking distance, or if they are always on top of their work, but I am going
with the latter because they were helpful during our entire stay! For the
drinks, I wanted to order a Sprite. I know what you are thinking, I was in
Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant and I wanted Sprite?! Luckily they offered us water
first – flat or sparkling. We chose sparkling, and boy was I glad! It was
called Voss and it was better than Perrier, and I like Perrier! It is pricey, but worth it. Bottom line – if you like
sparkling water and they offer Voss, get it!
I ordered the Wild Salmon with Bok Choy. It came with a black bean and ginger soy sauce that the waiter poured on at the table. I also got a side of white and brown rice served in the same bowl! The salmon practically slide off when cut it was so moist! We also tried fried rice made with asparagus and pork sausage. I am not hot on anything pig-related, but I love fried rice. It was so good, and the sausage added a flavor to the rice that I had never tasted before!
We decided to splurge and get dessert here because everything had been so good. We each got something different and shared. The first was Warm Blueberry Crumble made with a salted streusel that balanced the sweetness from the blueberry filling. I am not one to eat lots of sweets, so the balance between the two flavors made it my favorite dessert! The second was 15-Layer Carrot Cake served with Ginger ice cream, and it really had 15 layers – we counted! The cake layers were thin, making it lighter than a regular slice, and the ice cream was a nice compliment to the flavor. The third was a divine mix called “Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate.” The name alone sounds sinful! First, they baked a chocolate soufflĂ© and brought it to the table to assemble in front of our eyes! Next they dug a hole in the center of the soufflĂ©, then filled it with chocolate sorbet, whipped cream, and a chocolate sauce that took the bakery chef ten years to perfect, rightly dubbed “10 Year Chocolate Sauce.” It was extremely rich, but magnificent!
Overall, this was the best restaurant of the whole trip! Everyone was nice, the food was excellent, and if I lived in D.C. I would be tempted to eat there often. Although, my wallet would probably start a protest!
