One of my friends suggested going to a place called "Flounder's" because she and her family always stopped there whenever they were close, and we wanted to be able to watch the sun set. At first, our "trusty" GPS couldn't find where it was from where we were on the beach, so she called her mom. It was literally less than 1/2 a mile away from us! (Technology these days....) She said "if you can see the water tower that looks like a beach ball with "Pensacola Beach" on it, it's at that same intersection! Make a mental note for this whenever you go. :)
When we got to Flounder's, it was packed! However, we got a table right off! We asked to be seated outside (It has the same basic set up as LuLu's in Foley, AL, but this view was SO MUCH BETTER!!) and we got a table right at the sand overlooking 2 volleyball courts and the beautiful gulf! I don't know about you, but whenever I'm around the water it calms me and I'm completely engulfed in the magnitude and pure awesomeness of God's creation! Anybody else feel this way??? GORGEOUS!!
Anyway, back to the food.
I looked over the menu probably 10 times trying to decide what to get! They are famous for their Flounder Chowder - hence part of the restaurant's name - but I was too hot to order it, even though I think I should have! There was a Lobster and Shrimp Rustica that looked wonderful, but I didn't feel like paying $20 for something that wouldn't have lasted the trip home. (Sanitary reasons, people!!) So, I finally decided on their Seafood Topped Steak Burger. The name alone should make your mouth water, because it sure did mine! It came to the table open-faced with this heavenly mixture of shrimp, crab meat, and whitefish sitting on top of a chargrilled burger. (And it was only $10!!) Mmmmm I can still taste it! It came with flash-fried fries (try saying that 10 times fast! Go on, do it!) that were pretty good, but nothing spectacular. The obvious star was that burger! It was just about the size of a small bread plate, and I ate almost all of it too! I highly recommend that burger! The only downside was that it did take us a while to get the food once we ordered it, but the view was so perfect that I really didn't mind the wait. I think my stomach did though... ;)
So there you have it. The next time that you go to Pensacola Beach, look for the beach ball water tower and go to Flounder's Chowder House. You won't be disappointed by the food and definitely not by the view!!!
Happy eating,
~HB~
