Homemade Lemonade Part 1

I probably should have done this post at the beginning of summer, but better late than never, huh?

Lemonade is a big thing during the summertime! Who can't remember drinking it at some point ever year?? When I was a kid, my sister and I used to spent a lot of time at our best friends' house. One of them was really in to Little House on the Prairie (LHP). Like, rrreeeaaallllyyyyyyy (she had an outfit made like one of Laura's)! Anyway, she had a LHP book that had a recipe for lemonade in it. Oh. My. Word. It's the best lemonade that I have ever had!!

Fast forward 10-ish years.

I found myself craving that same lemonade a couple of weeks ago, so I set out to find the recipe. Thanks to startpage.com, I found the recipe for Laura Ingalls Wilder's Homemade Lemonade and I was so, so happy! :)

The recipe is super easy to make, so I hope that you thoroughly enjoy it when you make it!!

Happy eating,
~HB~
Homemade Lemonade

1 cup sugar
1 cup water

6 large lemons (1 cup of juice)
3 cups cold water

Add the water to the sugar in the measuring cup; stir to dissolve. Set aside.

Roll the lemons on the counter with your palm a few times to make them juicier. Cut the lemons in half. Set the juicer over the bowl and squeeze as much of the juice out of the lemons as you can. If you have the kind of juicer with its own catch basin, be sure to remove any seeds. Pour the juice into the pitcher.

Stir the sugar water into the lemon juice, then add the cold water and stir. Taste the lemonade to see if it is sweet enough.

  1. Hee hee I had forgotten about that but she sure was INTO that big time. SO funny to think back on that. Man I feel soooooo old! lol I'd have to use Stevia instead of sugar though. What I've been doing is making some like this..... I just put the water in a jug and let it sit 24 hours to get out the chlorine. :) THEN I slice up the lemons nice and then, I usually just make like a quart or so and use one lemon. I slice it into the quart jar and then pour the water over it. Then as I drink it I just sweeten it with my Stevia and it's soooo good. I do use a nice large lemon though. LOVE lemonaid to!

  2. I know, it feels like it was so long ago! That sounds like an awesome variation, and I'd LOVE to make mine with Stevia now that I know it's been done and you like it. :)
