How to Roast a Bell Pepper

Now I know that this is not a post about hummus, but it plays a key roll in my next post, so keep on reading! :)

Have you ever wondered how to "make" your own roasted red bell peppers? Ya know, like the ones that you can get in a jar at the store? The other day I found myself with a red pepper and an idea: I was going to figure it out! It couldn't be that hard to figure out! And you know what?? (Surprisingly) it wasn't!

All you need to roast your own is a baking pan (lined with aluminum foil), cutting board & knife, and a paper bag. (Hang in there, that one will be explained soon!)

Set your oven to Broil and position your oven rack to the top. Take your bell pepper and cut it in half. Remove the seeds and membrane (that white-ish, soft stuff). Cut little "nicks" in your pepper halves to make it easy to flatten out on your baking pan. Place the pan onto the top rack and broil until the outer skin is black. And when I say black, I mean BLACK.
                                                                           See???
Remove from oven and immediately place pepper halves into the paper bag. Roll tightly to trap the steam inside and let it sit for 10 minutes. After that, take the peppers out of the bag and remove the black outer skin. Thinly slice your peppers (if you want) and you are set to go!!

Happy eating,
~HB~
