They bake all kinds of dog biscuits, including "Barbecued Squirrel." But don't worry, it's just a biscuit shaped to look like a squirrel. ;) I found myself staring at the specialty birthday cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and bon bons for a little too long, marveling at how ingenious this place was and why I hadn't ever thought of it!
Let me side step for a while...
This past weekend, my sister and I brought our dogs to the bakery to attend their (Maggie & Lizzy) first ever doggie Valentine's party, the "Smooch Your Pooch Doggy Social". We got cute little matching outfits for them to wear, and little pink bows to go in their hair. :) Stop laughing and shaking your head.. Hold off on that until you see the pictures!!!
Maggie (my black and white peekapoo) did NOT enjoy it at all. And when I say did not, I mean D-I-D N-O-T. She was really an utter twit about it - and I'm being nice. From the moment we walked in the door she was angrily barking at everyone, especially the other dogs, and I had to pick her up because I was afraid she would bite at another dog! (My dog has no record of EVER hurting another dog or animal..just for the record.) She death gripped my arm as I walked her past all of the other dogs and over to the table where she could pick out her own treats for us to buy. (Stooooopppp laughing!) She got really interested in that because she loves to eat...like mother like dog, I guess? :) After about 5 minutes, she started her "I'm going to growl at anything - human or pooch - that walks anywhere near me, my mommy, my auntie, or my sissy" escapade, and I knew that I was going to have to do something to calm that dern dog down! So, I walked her outside and got her away from everything that resembled 4 legs and fur and, wouldn't you know it?! She calmed down! What a stinkin' miracle!! Okay, it wasn't really that miraculous..she just knew I was ticked at her and she needed to chill out. Smart pup. I let her walk around for a few minutes, and then opened the door of the bakery and let her prance on in. She caught sight of Lizzy and started moving towards her when out of nowhere, a dumb pitbull (or maybe it was an English boxer? I can't really remember) decided that he wanted to get a sniff of the pooch in the purple dress. WRONG MOVE, dude!! Man, she turned on that boy like the flip of a coin and yep, you guessed it! Back in my arms she went.
A local animal shelter was at the party raising awareness of the need for homes for stray animals. One of the ladies was dressed up as Clifford the big red dog! The lady wanted to hold Maggie (what a brave soul!) and Lizzy and get pictures taken with them. Honestly, I think that was the highlight of the trip for Maggie. Well, that...and all of the treats she got to gobble in the car on the way home!
Lizzy was such an angel the whole time. If you know me, you know my dogs. You'll also know that Lizzy normally holds the title of "biggest twit" and Maggie normally has "sweetest angel". They definitely switched fur for this day! She literally sniffed at every treat that my sister held up to her and either turned her head away if she didn't like it, or lunged at it if she wanted it. She walked around on her leash smelling and looking at everything and everyone, took her pictures with "Clifford" and had herself a good little time! Party pooch in the house!! ;)
Oh, and they had refreshments for humans and dogs (duh!) that all looked so cute! Maggie prevented me from getting to look around and see most of it, but my sister said that it was cute as all get out. Rachel brought a cupcake for each dog over to the corner of the room (that's where Maggie and I were at one point) and we let them both eat their little mini. They licked the icing off and passed over the cake with maybe a few little nibbles. Sounds like a kid, doesn't it???
All in all, I laughed off Maggie's flippant attitude and we all had a pretty doggone good time! (Pun intended.) :)
All of that being said, doggie bakeries DO exist and, if you have a dog, you should visit one at least once in your lifetime! It'll definitely make the saying "this world's gone to the dogs" more real to you!
Happy eating,
~HB~Here are a few pictures from our time at the party...

Honey you had me howling in laughter! I had to read it to Robert and he was in stitches to! Our Buddy wiould be right there WITH her! When we take him some where with us he growls at every one that walks close or near to the car. He's a Boston and when I say he's spoiled rotten I DO MEAN rotten!
ReplyDeleteMaggie and Lizzie were too cute all dressed up for Valentines day and I just KNOW they dearly loved you and Rachel for taking them to the party! :)
